Stealth 101: Hiding from Your Advisor
Concealment efficacy of corrugated fiberboard against advisor line-of-sight.
Introduction
Advisor avoidance is an ancient discipline, formalised in cardboard-based environments by early practitioners [1]. Modern corridors, however, feature glass walls, open-plan kitchens, and advisors with calendars, rendering classical doctrine incomplete. We characterise concealment efficacy in standard university corridors under contemporary conditions.
Method
Corrugated-fiberboard enclosures of varying cross-section were deployed along high-traffic corridors during peak supervision hours. Line-of-sight occlusion was scored against advisor approach angles following the protocol of Struggle [2], with detection probability estimated per encounter as
where is advisor density and the exposed silhouette area. Participants were instructed to think about literally anything else.
Results
Polygonal cross-sections outperform cylindrical ones on every metric except dignity, reducing in Equation (1) by up to 61%. Ambient noise discipline contributed a further 23% reduction in detection events. The single recorded failure involved a box labelled with the participant name.
Conclusion
Recommendations are offered for box selection, posture, exhale timing, and label hygiene. Limitations include stairs, fire drills, and scheduled meetings, for which no enclosure is sufficient.
