Woman Yelling at Cat: Conflict Resolution

Vocal escalation dynamics in interspecies dinner-table disputes.

Introduction

Interspecies dinner-table disputes remain a leading cause of unresolved seminar tension [1]. The canonical configuration pairs a highly motivated speaker with a listener whose commitment to the salad is, at best, partial. We model the vocal escalation dynamics of such disputes.

Method

Audio amplitude AA was recorded across 96 staged disputes and regressed against perceived listener smugness ss, yielding the super-linear relation

As1.8(1)A \propto s^{1.8} \tag{1}

consistent with prior acoustic work [2]. Smugness was scored by a blinded panel; the panel reported difficulty remaining blind to the smugness.

Results

The listener maintained salad refusal throughout, confirming the smugness ceiling predicted by Smudge [1]. Amplitude tracked Equation (1) until the pointing began, after which the model required a finger-extension term. No dispute concluded with belief revision on either side of the table, and two concluded with the table itself.

Conclusion

De-escalation drills built around vegetable redirection and the strategic long blink are demonstrated live. Participants are asked not to bring their own cat, their own grievance, and under no circumstances both.
